Great to meet you!

My name is Jennifer Fugo and I’m a clinical nutritionist with a Master’s in Human Nutrition from the University of Bridgeport as well as a trained wellness coach and yoga instructor. I’m also a wife, cat mama, and aunt to two beautiful little girls.

In my early 20s, I had no clue about what it meant to live a purpose-driven, health-conscious life. Instead, I pushed myself too hard trying to keep up in fast-paced NYC before eventually moving home (Philadelphia).

And my perspective shifted while working by my dad’s side (he’s an MD and eye surgeon) with people who were so so sick.

Despite having a personal pharmacy of daily drugs, these patients had no clue how big of a role food actually played in their life.

They’d go blind, lose toes (and eventually legs), lose their kidney function, have serious heart complications and strokes…

All the while wondering “how did this happen to me?

In my unique position, I started asking patients what they ate. The answers were surprising at the time (yet not so much anymore).

Doctors had given them permission to keep on eating whatever they wanted no matter how sick they became.

A few years of this went by, and then I got sick.

My Health… Unraveled

I’m not exactly sure when my health problems started.

I had symptoms that I can recall as early as in my teenage years.

I come from a 100% Italian family and my diet was loaded with bread, pasta, and pizza. I literally couldn’t stop myself from eating breadbasket after breadbasket at restaurants — I was a total addict!

All I can tell you is that by 27 years old, I felt decades older (and not is a wiser sort of way).

Unable to wake up in the morning (even after 11 hours of sleep), I was completely exhausted all day and popped Tylenol to manage constant headaches.

I had a slew of “bathroom problems” which I thought (for some reason) were normal. The reality was that my digestive system was a mess. I had constant horrible-smelling gas, bloating to the point where I looked pregnant, chronic diarrhea and “stomach pain.”

Round, scaly rashes covered my arms and legs. I’d get sick every four to six weeks from whatever was going around, and I’d gained almost 20 lbs that I could not exercise nor diet off.

I went to doctors looking for help, but no one had any answers for me. Some doctors even laughed and told that my symptoms were all in my head.

Do you know what that’s like?

But the thing is… my health issues were very real.

Eventually, I found a nutritionist who listened to me. I was able to discover my root causes — leaky gut and food sensitivities to gluten, dairy, eggs, cruciferous veggies, and the cashew family.

Here’s my Before & After photo — you can see all the puffiness in my face!

Jennifer Fugo Before Jennifer Fugo After

After getting well again, I developed Candida and Adrenal Fatigue about a year later from eating the Standard Gluten-Free Diet. I was so completely bummed, but I kept on digging for a solution that was practical and wouldn’t leave me starving!

With consistent action, I was able to overthrow my inner sugar addict and reboot my body! This protocol became what’s known as the Gluten-Free Sugar Cleanse that’s been helping women for the past 7 years.

And more recently, I overcame chronic dyshidrotic eczema that I’d suffered with for about 3 years. My unique approach to figuring out the WHY underneath the symptoms has put the eczema 90% into remission. {Check out my 7 Eczema-Soothing Smoothies HERE}

Putting It All Together

I’ve spent a lot of time and energy on my own healing. What I’ve learned along the way has informed my mission in life — to help other women like me figure out their own health puzzle so they can get back to feeling like a whole, healthy, active person again.

I am so passionate about this work that I got my Master’s in Human Nutrition from the University of Bridgeport. I wanted a deeper understanding of how to support clients with chronic health issues that are typically go beyond just changing your diet.

Now I’m the director of my own virtual clinical nutrition practice. Working with clients all over the world, my team and I work alongside you every step of the way acting as your copilot!

When my clients find me, they’ve been dealing with:

  • Gut imbalances and Hidden Infections
  • Chronic Diarrhea and Constipation
  • Leaky Gut Syndrome
  • Gluten Sensitivity (and other food intolerances)
  • Thyroid Dysfunction (Hashimoto’s)
  • Chronic Skin Rashes (ie. Eczema, Psoriasis)
  • Constant Brain Fog
  • Never-ending Fatigue
  • Anxiety and Depression
  • Autoimmunity (ie. Celiac Disease, Lupus)

The ultimate goal is to resolve your health issues by rebalancing and supporting your body to do what it does best! To do that, we’ll use a toolbox that includes food, micronutrient supplements, herbs, lifestyle changes, and stress management.

It’s important to me that I never assume that I KNOW what’s wrong with you. You are not like someone else, nor do you necessarily have the same issue(s) as someone else simply because you have similar symptoms.

I’m always looking for clues that you might not even know are clues. That’s why I listen, ask questions, and dig deeper to find those hidden root causes.

Together we make a plan by finding creative, practical, doable solutions to your ongoing health complaints that you’re comfortable with.

At the end of the day, every client I work with wants to get back to the more important things in life like taking care of and playing with your kids (or grandkids), going on vacations without being scared to death of getting sick, volunteering, having the energy to take care of their home and family, wearing a bathing suit (without all the stares at embarrassing rashes)…

You get the picture.

Check out how my clients’ have gotten back to truly living after working together!

And I feel incredibly honored and grateful that I have the privilege to work with these clients to finally find that “normal” life again.

Are you ready to be your own success story?

Arrows

I believe that…

1. …it’s my purpose to make the road ahead easier for you. I’m your copilot🙂

2. …“golden rules” are more meaningful than ever (yes… like treating others how you’d want to be treated)

3. …you should run in the direction of what makes you feel good and powerful in your life.

4. …you are a steward of this precious body that you call home.

5. …it’s wrong to make people afraid of food. I have ZERO interest in giving you food fear.

6. …you should focus on what you CAN do (or CAN eat) so that excuses no longer have any power over you.

7. …really good food doesn’t have to be complicated. You do not have to be a professional chef in order to make food that tastes good.

8. …if you REALLY intend on changing things, you’ve got to be an active participant open to opportunities that make your life better.

9. …what you do should be as simple as possible, efficient, AND effective.

10. …you don’t have to do all of the heavy lifting yourself (I mean… that’s why you’re here, right?)

Fun Facts! A bit more about me (personally)…

  • I live outside of Philadelphia with my husband and 4 (yes FOUR) cats.
  • I volunteer with a cat rescue to help stray or abandoned cats to find loving homes.
  • I love to garden (even though I’m not always successful every year). I also have two pear trees, an apple tree, a fig tree, and two mulberry trees.
  • I love to crochet and can design and make my own patterns! I’ve even made clothing too! However, I honestly really don’t like to knit.
  • I didn’t learn to cook until after I was diagnosed with food sensitivities (and have no formal training with the exception of taking a knife skills class).
  • I lived in Costa Rica for almost 3 months and then Italy for almost 2 months when I was 25.
  • I’ve since traveled back to Italy and had an amazing time… they REALLY know how to do gluten-free right!
  • I love British murder mysteries and Burn Notice.
  • I moved to NYC when I was 19 and then moved home at 24. I still love the pace and liveliness of the city to this day and enjoy visiting whenever I get a chance.
  • My younger sister is an acupuncturist and herbalist who founded The Luma Center in Petaluma, CA. She’s amazing and brilliant!
  • I do not like shellfish or raw fish.
  • I enjoy being active in my local community as much as I can.
  • I apparently have a knack for renovating homes… it’s a long story. 🙂
