Have you ever felt like you’ve tried everything to fix your chronic skin condition — only to still wake up each day with rashes that itch, burn, or flare at random? If that sounds familiar, you might be dealing with something deeper that no cream, supplement, or elimination diet alone can fix.

This might be hard to hear, but I’m going to tell you — You don’t have a skin problem.

And the reason you’re still struggling day after day, month after month to fix your skin is because you’re stuck due to a Root Cause Mismatch.

I’m willing to bet that you’ve spent a lot of time and money doing what others with the same diagnosis (or even symptoms) as you have done, hoping that it will work.

And yet here you are, stuck without any clear answer why.

I know you’re trying to do all the things, but this approach you’re taking is exactly why nothing has worked long-term.

In today’s episode, I’m revealing why you shouldn’t assume that what helped (or even healed) another person with the same exact diagnosis will work for you. And we’ll deep into real client case studies so you can see how dramatically different the root causes behind the same diagnosis can be!

So if your goal is to make 2026 the last year you ever let your unpredictable skin control your life, THIS is the episode for you!

And if you’re super dedicated, I invite you to join me for the FREE Fix My Skin workshop where I’ll show you how to discover YOUR unique root cause combo and how this combo reveals the steps you need to take to fix your skin.

Don’t spend the next year continuing to play whack-a-mole while chasing symptom relief that never lasts. Your skin is trying to tell you something. Let's figure out what it is so I can show you how to fix it!

408: Tough Truth: Why Won’t Your Rash Go Away? (Why A Skin Rash Root Cause Analysis Is So Important) {FULL TRANSCRIPT}

Welcome to episode 408 of the Healthy Skin Show! This is really important if you feel like you've tried everything for your skin rash… and you’re left wondering why it won't go away?

If your eczema, psoriasis, perioral dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, rosacea, HS, or chronic hives just won't quit — no matter what cream, diet, or supplement you try…

I need to tell you something important (that might fly in the face of everything you’ve been told), but you need to hear this:

You don't have a skin problem. You’re stuck because you are working off a Root Cause Mismatch.

So let’s talk about what that is and why this mismatch sets you up for failure every time you try another thing to fix your skin… and what to do instead.

Why What Worked for Them Isn’t Working for You

Have you ever tried something someone swore by for their skin — maybe a diet, supplement, or protocol — and found it didn’t help at all… or even made things worse?

You’re not alone.

That frustrating cycle — try, hope, fail, repeat — is often caused by something I call a root cause mismatch.

So what do I mean by this?

At the heart of every chronic skin condition — eczema, psoriasis, PD, rosacea, HS, hives, and more — there are underlying root causes.

These are the hidden imbalances or issues in your body driving your symptoms (that can, in time, exacerbate the severity of your current conditions AND leave you with more health issues).

If you’re here, you might already understand this concept.

You might feel in your heart that these issues are the thing to address so that your skin can calm down.

And what 90% of people do is look for shortcuts.

So you research websites and books, and read through hundreds of comments online looking for people with your diagnosis who did something that made an improvement.

And it makes sense that if it helped them, then it will also help you!

So you try things over and over and over that you’re either not sure help, helped but aren’t sustainable, didn’t help at all, or made things worse.

Your effort and dedication is so amazing and admirable, but I have to ask the question…

If this approach really works, why are there still tens of thousands of people in online forums sharing so many random things?

And why aren’t you better?

The inconvenient truth that no one tells you is this:

Everyone doesn’t have the same root cause, even if their diagnosis or symptoms are the same.

But functional and conventional medicine often approaches skin issues as if they’re all caused by the same few things — like gluten, thyroid problems, or gut health. So you’re told to go gluten-free, take a probiotic, or cut out a dozen foods… and when it doesn’t work, you're left feeling like you did something wrong.

I need you to know that it's not your fault.

You’re dealing with a mismatch between your unique root cause combo and what is required to actually fix them.

The Diagnosis ≠ The Root Causes

Let’s say you and someone else both have eczema. You go into a Facebook group and see someone post about how cutting out dairy cleared their skin. You haven’t tried that yet, so you give it a go.

But nothing changes.

Or worse — your skin flares.

It’s easy to assume that because someone shares your diagnosis (eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, etc.), they must also share your root causes. But that’s rarely the case.

In my clinical experience with over 1000+ chronic skin cases and root cause analysis, I’ve identified 16 different root causes that can drive chronic skin issues. That means there are many combinations — and explains why what works for one person could completely backfire for you.

Two People. Same Eczema Diagnosis. Totally Different Plans.

Let me show you what I mean with real-world examples because it’s easy to talk about this from a theoretical perspective. We’ll start with two eczema cases and then look at this through two psoriasis cases.

Eczema Case #1

This client had:

  • Severe pollen and food allergies
  • Parasites and Candida
  • High levels of unfriendly gut bacteria
  • Estrogen recycling issues
  • Poor fat absorption
  • Nutrient deficiencies

We developed a customized plan targeting those specific issues. The result? Major improvements in his skin.

Eczema Case #2

She also had eczema — but her picture looked totally different:

  • A severely depleted gut microbiome
  • diff and Candida
  • pylori infection
  • Ongoing skin infections (staph and yeast)
  • Sky-high IgE levels
  • Nutrient deficiencies (but different ones)

Her protocol was completely different — because it had to be. What worked for the first person would have failed her.

Same diagnosis. Different root causes. Different path forward.

Two Psoriasis Cases AND Different Root Causes

The same kind of mismatch I described with eczema happens with psoriasis too — and it's just as eye-opening when you see the details.

Let me walk you through two very different psoriasis cases I worked on:

Psoriasis Case #1 – Deb’s Story

Deb was dealing with widespread plaque psoriasis — those thick, inflamed patches of skin commonly found on the elbows, legs, and other “flexor” areas. When we dug into her root cause analysis, here’s what we found:

  • Low secretory IgA — meaning her gut's immune defenses were weak
  • Elevated beta-glucuronidase — a marker of estrogen recycling issues
  • A disrupted gut microbiome: low healthy bacteria, high levels of inflammatory bacteria, Candida, and elevated strep
  • Significant liver detox challenges — so intense that it dictated where we had to begin her protocol

This was not a case where we could just “jump into gut healing.” Her liver needed major support first in order for any other interventions to work.

Psoriasis Case #2 – A Very Different Picture

The second client had scalp psoriasis and guttate psoriasis, a different presentation from Deb’s.

Her case history revealed:

  • A past filled with repeated food poisoning incidents while traveling
  • A long history of antibiotic use (over 10 years)
  • A severe case of SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth)
  • Two protozoan infections (Blastocystis hominis and Dientamoeba fragilis), one of which suggested a possible worm exposure
  • Suboptimal nutrient levels and moderate liver detox issues — but in a much less intense pattern than Deb’s
  • Extreme reactivity — everything we tried initially made her nauseous, so we had to start with a gentler entry point

While it took time, this client eventually resolved many of the gut issues and has had some amazing improvements in her skin.

Her root causes were wildly different, even though her diagnosis was still psoriasis.

And no, it doesn’t matter that Deb had a different type of psoriasis from the second case… it’s just how her psoriasis manifested on her skin.

These differences in root cause combos meant we couldn’t use the same protocols. Her body needed a different approach, with special attention initially to how severe her SIBO was and how reactive her system had become.

So whether you have one of these types of eczema or psoriasis OR some other type (or combination of skin conditions), the same exact concept and process applies to rosacea, seborrheic dermatitis, perioral dermatitis, Hidradenitis suppurativa, chronic hives/urticaria (dermatographia and angioedema) — all of it.

woman feeling stuck making no progress with her skin rash

This Is Why You’re Stuck

If you’re feeling like nothing is working — no matter how many protocols you follow, how “clean” you eat, or how many supplements you’ve invested in — I want you to know: You’re not lazy. You’re not doing it wrong. And this isn’t your fault.

You’re stuck because the interventions you’ve been trying don’t match your actual root causes.

This is what I call a root cause mismatch — and it’s the number one reason that people continue to suffer (and get worse) for years, eventually getting to a place where they need serious medication to have a decent quality of life.

If you’ve been operating under the assumption that your diagnosis (eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, etc.) is the full picture, I hope this message is eye-opening.

Because it has the power to set you free from the false belief that what worked for someone else with the same condition must work for you…

Only to find yourself yet again no better (or unable to sustain the progress you did make) to feel like you’ve wasted more time, lost precious motivation, swimming in self-doubt, and back to square one.

The truth is your diagnosis is only a label — it’s not the map.

They’re signs of the real problems brewing underneath: the imbalances, hidden infections and overgrowths, toxic burdens, and deficiencies that fuel your symptoms.

And here’s what makes it trickier — your combination of root causes may look nothing like someone else’s, even if your skin issues seem identical. That’s why:

  • The same low-histamine diet that helped your friend’s hives may do nothing for you
  • The “skin healing” protocol that cleared up someone’s eczema could make your eczema worse
  • Cutting gluten, dairy, or sugar might leave you more frustrated than relieved… and afraid of what will happen if and when you try to reintroduce them

It’s not that those methods are useless — they may truly help some people manage their skin.

But if they don’t align with your body’s root cause combo, they won’t meaningfully and sustainably move the needle. And sometimes, they might even backfire.

That’s why it feels like you’re stuck spinning your wheels: You’re using the wrong map to fix your skin.

Once you understand what’s actually going on beneath the surface — what your unique root cause combo looks like with a proper root cause analysis — you can finally take action that creates meaningful, lasting change.
